Army and Navy Sweets are traditional British boiled sweets with a bold aniseed and liquorice flavour. Each sweet is encased in a crystallised sugar shell, giving a satisfying snap before revealing the long-lasting, aromatic centre.

The name Army and Navy Sweets comes from their inclusion in the rations of British soldiers and sailors during the First World War, providing a quick, high-energy treat. Originally valued for their soothing effect on the throat and chest, much like traditional cough candy, these sweets were also the subject of the famous “opium” rumour—though largely considered an urban legend, it was said that the original recipe contained a small amount of opium to boost morale and ease coughs
